How to Choose an Air Purifier for Your Home

Core 300S Smart HEPA

An air purifier only helps if it suits your room and the problem you are actually trying to solve. Here is how to pick the right one without overspending.

Start with room size

Every purifier is rated for a coverage area. Match that rating to the room where it will really run — a unit sized for 350 sq ft will struggle in a large open living room.

  • Bedrooms and small rooms: a compact unit covering roughly 200–350 sq ft is usually enough.
  • Living rooms and open plans: look for higher coverage — 500 sq ft and above.
  • If in doubt, size up: a larger unit on a low setting is quieter than a small one running flat out.

Look for True HEPA

A True HEPA (H13) filter captures 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns — dust, pollen, pet dander and smoke particles. “HEPA-type” is not the same thing, so check the wording before you buy.

Think about what you are filtering

  • Dust and pollen: HEPA does the heavy lifting.
  • Odours, smoke or cooking smells: you also want an activated carbon layer.
  • Pets: look for a pre-filter that traps hair before it clogs the HEPA.

Noise, running cost and extras

  • Check the noise level on the lowest setting if it will run in a bedroom.
  • Factor in replacement filter cost and how often they are needed.
  • Smart models add app control, auto mode and air-quality sensors — useful, not essential.

Match coverage, filter type and noise to your room and the unit will earn its place. Browse our air purifiers to compare models.
