Where to Place an Air Purifier for the Best Results
The same purifier can perform very differently depending on where you put it. A few placement rules get far more out of the unit you already own.
Put it where you spend time
A purifier only cleans the room it is in. Prioritise the bedroom, then the living room — moving one unit between rooms works better than leaving it somewhere you rarely sit.
Give it room to breathe
- Leave clear space around the intake and outlet — usually at least 30 cm.
- Do not push it hard against a wall or tuck it behind a sofa or curtain.
- Avoid corners, where airflow stalls.
Height and airflow
A stable floor position near the middle of the room, away from obstructions, works well for most units. Slightly raised placement can help circulation in larger spaces.
Close the loop
- Keep doors and windows closed while it runs, so you are not filtering the outdoors.
- Place it near the source if you have one — a litter tray, kitchen doorway or a smoky area.
- Run it continuously on a low setting rather than in short bursts on high.
